Steam hose for water vapor and saturated gases

When it comes to hose technology for industry and laboratory, you are guaranteed to find what you need in the range of Reichelt Chemietechnik. Our online shop offers a wide selection of various steam hoses made of different materials, primarily used in process chemistry, process engineering, and chemical engineering. When conveying water vapor or other saturated, chemical gases, regular exhaust hoses and suction hoses often do not suffice; in such cases, special steam and water vapor hoses are used. Our range includes a wide variety of such specialty products for saturated as well as hot gases. If you want to purchase the right steam hose but still have questions about the variant suitable for your requirements, our team is happy to assist you in selecting the right pr

  • Butyl-IIR (Butyl rubber)
  • EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer rubber)
  • SBR (Styrene Butadiene Rubber, Buna®)
  • Silicone or silicone rubber
  • NBR (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Rubber, Perbunan®)

Depending on your operating conditions, the appropriate steam hose can be selected from the above materials. Relevant parameters that must be discussed before choosing a tube include temperature load, pressure load, and required flexibility.

The various steam hoses and their properties

The individual benefits of these materials or the steam hoses made from them are as follows:

Butyl-IIR

Butyl rubber has the lowest gas permeability among all elastomers, with air diffusion approximately ten times lower than comparable natural rubber qualities. This rubbery polymer is thus ideal for use as a gas and steam hose. The permissible working temperature of the abrasion-resistant, ozone, and weather-resistant steam hose ranges from -30°C to +100°C, with brief exposure up to +140°C possible. The Shore A hardness is 60°.

EPDM

EPDM hoses are excellent for use as steam hoses in a temperature range from -40°C to +120°C, with saturated steam also conveyable at up to +210°C. To withstand extreme steam pressure, tubing made of soft rubber is also available as reinforced designs. Double-jacket hoses, optionally equipped with additional polyester or steel wire braiding, are available.

Reichelt Chemietechnik manufactures the EPDM high-temperature pressure hoses for hot goods, water vapor, and hot water. These products can convey saturated steam at temperatures up to +164°C and operating pressures up to 6 bar (at +20°C) across the entire nominal width range from 10 mm to 50 mm. The steam hose is aging-resistant, weather-resistant, and ozone-resistant, and chemically resistant to many acids, alkalis, and polar solvents. Moreover, the physiologically safe inner core is FDA-compliant, making it suitable for food contact. Consequently, they are also used in the food industry, beverage technology, and dairy operations.

NBR

Nitrile hoses are available both as steam hoses and double-jacket hot goods hoses.

NBR Steam Hose

The evaporation hose made of nitrile rubber is used in food technology, the soft drink industry, and the dairy industry, as well as in process technology and process engineering. This broad range of applications is made possible by its high temperature resistance from -30°C to +100°C (saturated steam up to +164°C) and its pressure capacity up to 30 bar at +20°C. The physiologically safe inner core complies with the regulations of EC 1935/2004 and BfR XXI:2002 (Cat. 2) and is FDA-compliant (CFR 21 §177.2600). Its elastic behavior and resistance to aging and weathering are rated as good.

NBR Double-Jacket

Hot Goods Hose For particularly hot vapors, hot goods, or mineral oils, the double-jacket hot goods hose is used. Its abrasion resistance, resistance to mineral oils, and elastic properties are excellent. The steam hose can be used in a broad temperature range from -20°C to +180°C, briefly even up to +220°C. The maximum operating pressure of 8 bar at +20°C is ensured by the double-jacket design and the integrated synthetic fabric insert as a pressure carrier.

SBR

For plant construction, power plant technology, process technology, and turbine technology, steam hoses made of SBR are available, considered high-temperature pressure hoses and used for conveying saturated steam. The maximum operating pressure of 6 bar based on +20°C is realized through the integrated synthetic fabric as a pressure carrier. The permissible working temperature range is from -20°C to +100°C, with steam also conveyable up to +164°C. The steam hoses can also be used for conducting other gases and vapors. Further noteworthy are the high elasticity and abrasion resistance.

Silicone

Silicone rubber is also used for the production of saturated steam hoses. Here, highly flexible and elastic variants with high mechanical strength, also suitable for vacuum applications, are available. Silicone hot air hoses are designed for temperatures up to +310°C, ensuring no change in material properties even at maximum temperatures, as these involve particularly high-quality, silicone-coated fiberglass fabrics. The pressure and vacuum capacity is ensured by an internal spring spiral. The nominal width range of silicone hot steam hoses ranges from 19 mm to 305 mm. They are also available as a special version with an additional inner cover and can be used in a temperature range from -85°C to +310°C. They offer the highest elasticity and flexibility with consistent mechanical strength. Even when subjected to maximum temperatures, no material changes are recorded. Thus, the high wear resistance of the steam hoses is assured.

Silicone High-Temperature Pressure Hoses

The group of silicone tubing also includes silicone high-temperature pressure hoses, specifically provided for chemical technology, pharmaceutical technology, and medical technology. The steam hoses suitable for high-temperature applications can be loaded up to +200°C. A braid made of PETP or a glass silk fabric insert serves as a pressure carrier, achieving a burst pressure of up to 60 bar at +20°C. They are considered robust, highly flexible pressure hoses, also manufactured as physiologically safe versions. These comply with the regulations of the FDA (21 §177.2600), the USP (USP Class VI), the BfR (XV Silicone), the European Pharmacopoeia, and NSF 51.

For example, the flexible silicone high-temperature pharmaceutical pressure hose – a saturated steam hose specification that is FDA, BfR, and USP-compliant. It thus meets the guidelines of the European Pharmacopoeia and the NSF. However, this version can only be stressed in the temperature range from -40°C to +150°C. The steam hoses are considered physiologically safe, food-grade, blood-compatible, and pyrogen-free. They are non-toxic and used in the pharmaceutical industry, medical technology, and the food industry.

With Stainless Steel

Braiding Silicone high-temperature pressure and chemical hoses with steel wire braiding are developed for temperature ranges from -50°C to +190°C and can be temporarily driven up to +250°C. The hoses are suitable for continuous operation at maximum temperatures, extremely robust yet flexible with small bending radii. A glass silk insert serves as a pressure carrier. Additionally, the steam hoses are externally braided with galvanized steel wire.
